SKILL LEVEL: BEGINNER

 

INGREDIENTS:

  • 12 slices of RYE or WHOLE WHEAT BREAD
  • MAYONNAISE as needed
  • 16 thin slices of HAM
  • 16 slices of TURKEY HAM
  • 16 strips of CRISPY BACON
  • 8 slices of MILD CHEDDAR
  • 8 slices of PEPPER JACK CHEESE
  • 8 thick slices of TOMATO
  • 4 leaves of GREEN LETTUCE

 

PREPARATION:

Start by toasting the bread with some butter until golden brown. After that spread some mayonnaise  (as much as you like) on a slice of toast, then place 4 slices of ham and 4 slices of turkey ham folded in half on top of the mayonnaise. Add 1 slice of mild cheddar and close the first half of the sandwich with another toasted bread with mayonnaise. Keep building the sandwich by adding the crisp bacon on top of the last piece of toasted bread, then add the 2 slices of tomato, one leaf of green lettuce and 1 slice of pepper jack cheese. Finish by spreading mayonnaise in on more piece of toasted bread and close the sandwich.

Before you cut, make sure you place 4 toothpicks about 1 inch inside each corner of the sandwich and then cut, that way your sandwich will look nice and it will be easy to eat.

 

TIPS:

  • You can skip toasting the bread to make a lighter version and it will be better if you want to make a “to go” sandwich
  • You can use with bread
  • Serve the sandwich with chips and pickle
  • A side of honey mustard it’s always a good idea for dipping
  • The crispier the bacon the better

Simple Tuna Salad Sandwich

Simple Tuna Salad Sandwich

SKILL LEVEL: BEGINNER

 

INGREDIENTS:

  • 8 slices of WHITE BREAD
  • 2 cans of good quality TUNA, remove the water or oil
  • 1 cup of MAYONNAISE or GREEK YOGURT  (for a light version)
  • 1 CELERY stalk finely chopped  
  • half of a GREEN APPLE cut in small cubes
  • Half of a RED BELL PEPPER cut in small cubes
  • Half of a RED ONION cut in small cubes and then washed in cold water
  • 2 tablespoons of CHOPPED PARSLEY
  • Juice of 1 LEMON
  • 8 slices of TOMATO
  • 2 cups of FIELD GREENS  tossed in a little olive oil, salt and pepper

 

PREPARATION:

Grab a mixing bowl and place the  tuna, celery, green apple, red bell pepper, mayo or greek yogurt and lemon juice. Mix well and taste, add salt and pepper as needed, mix well again.

Toast the bread on a toaster or flat grill, then top it off with some field greens and then add two slices of tomato. With a large spoon grab a healthy portion of tuna salad and place it on top of the tomatoes, if you want seasoning the tomatoes with salt, pepper and olive oil before. Finally ad the other toasted piece of bread and close the sandwich.

 

TIPS:

  • Don’t toast the bread and cut the borders for a lighter version of sandwich
  • You can take the tuna salad in a container and use toast points instead of bread for a snack or quick lunch
  • Eat this sandwich as soon as you make it, not a good “to go” type of sandwich
  • French Roll or other “hard” breads are also good for this sandwich
